How to find us

Driving

We are about a 90 minute drive from East London, 2 hours from Chintsa and 3 hours from Port Elizabeth.

It is tar roads all the way to Hogsback, apart from Cathcart (please check the state of the road before you attempt it) and Seymour (Don’t attempt it).  Hogsback itself has one main, and very badly maintained tar road and the rest are badly maintained dirt roads, but all of them are very navigable.

Durban, Coffee Bay and Chintsa

take the N2 past East London to King Williams Town, then towards Alice and turn off 4km before Fort Hare University.  Take the first sign you see for Hogsback and head 30km up the wonderful Hogsback Pass and into the village.

From Cape Town and Garden Route head to Port Elizabeth on the N2 then onto Grahamstown.   From there go to Fort Beaufort, (Don’t Head to SEYMOUR) but go through Alice and then after 4km turn left following the signs to Hogsback.

From Johannesburg go to Queenstown, and from there if you are in a high clearance vehicle and the road is good go to Cathcart then the dirt road to Hogsback.

If you are in a sedan, or the road is in bad condition then go straight through Cathcart and onto King Williams Town and then follow the above directions.

PLEASE AVOID THE SEYMOUR PASS

YOU WILL GET STUCK

If your GPS sends you up a dirt road hill from Seymour don’t believe it, in fact throw your GPS out of your window, because if you don’t you won’t make it to us, and you will probably have to pay hefty recovery fees.  Only very heavy duty 4×4’s can make it up the hill, so unless you’ve got one please don’t try.

If you find yourself at Seymour, take the dirt road from Seymour across the dam, past Elundini.  This is a very good dirt road and most vehicles will pass without incident.

Are you are in Fort Beaufort and your GPS is insisting on going to Seymour?  On second thoughts don’t throw it out of the window quite yet, it might still come in handy.  Instead of Seymour head to Alice and follow your pesky co-driver from there instead.

Finding Us in Hogsback

Away with the Fairies is based at the entrance to Hogsback, on your right hand side if you are coming from Alice or King Williams Town. In case you are coming from the Cathcart side you will find us right at the end of the main road on your left. When you are in front the HOGSBACK INFORMATION CENTRE, look across the road for a large green sign at the top of a dirt road which breaks off the main road. This sign will say, Away with the Fairies, with an arrow pointing down the road. Follow it to the next sign pointing right, the first right, and you will find yourself in our parking area soon.
